Released in June last year, the Got2Glow Fairy Pet Finder is a follow-up on the success of the Got2Glow Fairy Finder, with more exciting features, fairies to collect and things to do! This fairy pet-collecting device is a hit among kids and adult toy collectors alike – and we got our hands on it for tons of fun collecting fairy pets! Read on to check out our review.
First Impressions
Packed in an adorable pet-themed translucent box, the Fairy Pet Finder is shaped perfectly for little and big hands. Although it requires some fidgeting to get it (it’s tied down to the base – plus points for secure packaging), once it’s out it’s raring to go!
Shaped like an antique lantern, this plastic toy has a two-toned body with a cap on top. Its plastic handle is decorated with flowers and leaves that are comfy to hold onto, and also relatively lightweight. There’s also a built-in microphone on the top, and on the back of the jar, you’ll see the speaker. Batteries are to be inserted on the bottom and come with 3 AA batteries already installed. The screen on the Fairy Pet Finder is a black and white LED panel, with left and right buttons and a two selection buttons in the middle and on top. Overall, the packaging is super cute and the Fairy Pet Finder feels well-made!
How the Fairy Pet Finder Works
The main objective of the Fairy Finder is to find and collect fairies in your surroundings – it’s a great toy to encourage players to explore the outdoors. Flip open the flap to enter the fairy pet search mode, and when a virtual fairy pet appears inside the jar, just close the lid and it’ll be your Fairy Friend Forever. The Fairy Finder jar also glows differently according to the type of fairy found, which adds an interesting touch.
Searching For Pet Fairies
Searching for pet fairies on the Fairy Finder isn’t that hard – when you’re in different environments, you can find different types of fairies! From a rabbit fairy to a dolphin fairy, the designs and unique animations are super adorable!
A handy tip is to remember to flip your Fairy Pet Finder jar when in search mode to find unique upside-down fairies. What’s special about this version of the Fairy Finder is that it can look not only for pet fairies but also fairies from the original Fairy Finder device and baby fairies from the Baby Fairy Finder!
Interacting with Your Virtual Pet Fairies
Now that you’ve collected your fairy pet, what else is there to do? On top of viewing your fairy collection, you can press both buttons at once to see their signature interactions. You’ll also be able to hug them (long press both buttons), feed them treats (press the middle button), and press either the left or right button to get your fairy pet to fly around on the screen. Flip open the flap to say hello, and you’ll get a special response from each fairy! There’s also a minigame on the Fairy Finder, where you’ll navigate your selected fairy and catch items to earn points. Each minigame theme is unique to the type of pet you have, which is a pretty neat touch!
Here’s a hint – if you managed to find a Baby Fairy in your Fairy Pet Finder, take good care of it and it’s possible for it to grow up into a rare Fairy or a Fairy Pet!
Collecting & Trading Pets and More Fairies
Moving on to the fun part – trading fairies with friends! If you didn’t know already, each Fairy Pet Finder jar has 40+ unique fairies (ranked common, rare, ultra rare, and legendary in rarity) to each variant, and there are only a certain number of fairies you’ll be able to find in each jar. The trading feature is rather intuitive – just go into Trading Mode on the main menu, and when prompted, ‘pour’ your fairy into your friend’s jar and you’ll get yourself a new fairy from your friend! How cute is that? And yes — trading is compatible with all Fairy Finder devices.
Keeping track of the collected fairy pets isn’t easy, so there’s a free accompanying app called Find My Fairy (downloadable on the App Store or Google Play) where you can view the entire collection of fairies available to find, and use it as a virtual checklist. What’s fun about this app is that you’ll also get to see them in colour and learn various fun facts about them!
Alternatively, there are downloadable collector’s sheets on the official Got2Glow Fairy Finder website to keep track of the fairies collected. One thing that’s handy is that you can download the collector sheet for Secret Fairies, which you can get the codes from when you check the Find My Fairy app or follow Got2Glow on their Instagram page.
Our Verdict
The Got2Glow Fairy Pet Finder is a cute, fuss-free addition to any virtual pet lover’s collection, and it’s the kind of toy where it’s easy enough for kids to understand how to play it.
As compared to the previous Fairy Finder device, the Fairy Pet Finder is a better deal as it allows for cross-device trading and can catch all types of fairies. However, for those who are keen to complete the entire collection of fairy pets (over 80+) over both Fairy Pet Finder variants, you’ll still need to purchase another Fairy Pet Finder device or get a friend to trade with to complete it.
In terms of replayability, the device can keep collecting fairies even after you’ve found them all. Still, other than the various secret fairies you’ll get to collect when Get2Glow releases now and then, there’s not much to do – but great for those who want a virtual pet with literally zero upkeep and can make as a statement decor.
