Hang Out with Your Pixel Pals 24/7

Ever wondered what it is like to have company while you scroll through Twitter or when you reply emails? Say hello to Pixel Pals! These pixelated, Tamagotchi-inspired animals bounce around in your Dynamic Island, creating a really cute distraction.

Designed specifically for the Dynamic Island of your iPhone 14 Pro & Pro Max, Pixel Pals are the very first example of how third-party developers are given the opportunity to make use of this new capacity. This pushes the iPhone 14 Pro’s new exciting feature into the limelight, showing off how versatile and fun this little pill-shaped space can be! This shape-shifting island is unexpectedly more interactive than what everyone thought it was going to be. Intentionally built to conceal camera hardware, it has now doubled up as a fluid hub for key iPhone alerts, and well, pets!

Tap on your little critter to feed, play and interact with it. There are 8 adorable zoo animals to choose from, including an otter and an axolotl! While Hugo the cat and Rupert the dog come free with the app, you can unlock the others for a subscription of $1.49/month or $10/year. This subscription also allows you to add a second Pixel Pal to your Dynamic Island. Totally obsessed.

As all our virtual pets do, these guys have a pretty good life. With food fit for a king like steak and sushi, you are definitely hitting those hearts to keep them happy! When they (or you) are bored, throw a ball or move the wand for them to run around a little. After that, they would probably need a well-deserved nap. If you have toggled the settings to “Always Show Pixel Pal”, there is nothing stopping you from creep staring at them catching those Zs.

Pixel Pals was originally added to the Apollo app’s latest update. Apollo, being an extremely popular alternative Reddit client for the iPhone, provides users with endless access to all of Reddit’s articles. So, the idea is for you to have a cute little furry companion bouncing around while you are on the app, scrolling to the end of the Internet.

The Pixel Pals dedicated app, on the other hand, takes this to the next level. You can now have your pets living in the Dynamic Island forever, regardless the app you are using.

Requirements:

  • Pixel Pals App
  • iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • iOS 16 or higher

If you are on an iPhone 14 or older, do not fret; you can still add Pixel Pals to your phone’s lock screen or home screen widgets.
