Kingdom Hearts Celebrates 20 Years with Tamagotchi

Raise your very own Sora, Kairi, and other Kingdom Hearts characters.

Although Tamagotchi may not be as popular as it used to be twenty years ago when it took the world by storm, it has never really disappeared. In fact, there might not be a better time to get back into the Tamagotchi craze. Kingdom Hearts, the popular role-playing video game, celebrates its 20th anniversary with Tamagotchi.

Originally released by Bandai in 1996 in Japan, these Egg Watchers (a.k.a. Tamagotchis) became a toy hit, selling millions of units all over the globe. Tamagotchi comes in hundreds of different versions, shapes, colours, and sizes, and is adored by children and grown-ups alike. Following Star Wars and Toy Story, Kingdom Hearts has added its own version of the gadget, celebrating two decades since its first launch on the Sony PlayStation 2.

This Kingdom Hearts Tamagotchi Nano is available in two versions, Light Mode and Dark Mode. Players can raise a variety of Kingdom Hearts characters, like Sora, Kairi, Riku, Aqua, Donald, and Goofy. So far, Bandai has revealed a total of 20 characters. However, the company will include two additional characters after a fan vote is concluded.

Kingdom Hearts 2

The Kingdom Hearts Tamagotchi has three games available. These are:

  • Gummi Ship: Like the classic Gummi Ship missions in the original Kingdom Hearts games, the character will pilot a Gummi Ship, trying its best to avoid asteroids.
  • Pink Agaricus: A battle against a Pink Agaricus.
  • Colosseum: The character will fight enemies in Colosseum, with Phil instructing whether to press the A or B buttons.

Now, each of these games influences what your character will evolve into. Winning a game raises the happy meter by 1 while playing a perfect game raises the happy meter by 2. And, to make things more interesting, The Heartless will attack your characters randomly throughout the day.

The Kingdom Hearts Tamagotchi Nano (Japanese Version) is available at $20 under the Japan region, here.
