They have finally heard our woes and are giving us a tremendous sense of hope for the possibility of Nintendogs resurfacing as a mobile app! Rumour has it that the mobile patent filed for Nintendogs by Nintendo has been approved recently. Just the thought of being able to play with these adorable pups again is getting us really excited, taking us back to the golden days of the Nintendo DS.
It seems like we have forgotten just how successful Nintendogs actually was. It went way over everyone’s head and sold an incredible 23.9 million copies in its lifetime, way more than some of the more popular games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 or Red Dead Redemption. It did help that when the Nintendo DS was launched in 2005, it was flying off the shelves. Better yet, you did not need to be a “gamer” to actually enjoy playing Nintendogs, you just needed to have a soft spot for cute, fluffy things with puppy dog eyes.
Nearly two decades after the launch of Nintendogs, we are absolutely ecstatic to hear that it will be integrated into one of our most used devices, the mobile phone. The recently approved patent suggests that it will be an AR simulated game, boosted by updated tech that vastly supersedes the previous game model. Also, because it is said to be an AR game, a camera is needed, so this rules out the Nintendo Switch, making it only playable on mobile phones.
While dual screens, touch capabilities, and microphones to call your dogs were mind-blowing innovations back in the day, this generation is no stranger to AR simulated games. On top of that, touch screen devices have become second nature to most. The Nintendogs mobile app will probably take off well with the younger crowd, and obviously with the older crowd, too, for nostalgia’s sake.
Stay tuned for more future Nintendogs mobile updates!
