Some players were expressing their sorrows after an attempt to delete their Peridot account, and finding out that their Pokémon GO account has been deleted as well. Users reported that they were struggling to login to their Pokémon GO account upon deletion of their Peridot account within the app. Luckily, Niantic are on the ball and were able to restore access to all users who have come across this problem.
So, apparently, if you have several accounts for different Niantic games, all these accounts are correlated and somehow connected to each other. If you were to add a friend in one game, this same friend would be automatically added to another or all of the Niantic games that you are subscribed to. It may not be the best version of handling accounts on Niantic’s behalf, but they are keen to get this issue resolved very soon.
Netizens have come up with a temporary solution for this if you are considering deleting an account. If you no longer wish to continue playing a certain game, just delete the app for now, instead of deleting your account. We are just here to help you come aware of the current issue and really consider deleting any of your Niantic accounts until we receive further information.
So far, Niantic has responded to this whole account deletion palaver. Just so that everyone is well-informed and on the same page, they have shared this with GO Hub regarding this topic:
- Deleting one Niantic account will not result in any other Niantic accounts being deleted. We found that a couple of users unlinked their Google or Apple logins from Peridot, thinking that this was the same as deleting their accounts.
- Because these users had additional logins attached to another game, these login methods were removed from their Pokémon GO accounts and they lost their ability to login to Pokémon GO.
- Their Pokémon GO accounts were not deleted, they simply removed the ability to login to their own account and the Niantic support team was able to help them recover access.
- To be clear, it should not have been possible to remove all login methods from an account. We have added safeguards to prevent additional issues.
- If you were affected by this error, you should be able to recover access to Pokémon GO by logging into Pikmin Bloom via your Nintendo ID and reconnecting an additional login method.
So, hopefully this kind of clears the air and alleviates any kind of anticipated panic for players across all Niantic platforms.
